Before the rebrand

Hang is an online framing website, that allows you to send in art or upload images directly to be printed, framed and delivered to you. Their purpose is making the process of online framing easy, affordable and special.

I worked with the founder to redo the logo he had and build a design system, along with the entire website design.

My role

The design system

The logo

The logo is a beautifully-crafted logotype, reflected the crafting process of framing.

Colours & typography

First and foremost, we make use of as much white space as possible, to provide a neutral canvas for our imagery and frames. Grey has been crowned the most popular interior colour, being the go-to hue homeowners are choosing to paint their homes, so we used a lot of grey tint to break up content areas on the site. Then, we introduced muted complementary blue and green tones, which are again, the most popular colours used to transform walls to canvases in homes. Finally, pops of acidic yellow add a surprise of colour.

Illustrations & photography

We developed a suite of illustrative icons to be used throughout to user journey, which were a mix of painterly block colour illustration and line-drawn elements. We wanted to reference painterly art in these icons for obvious reasons, and for them to breathe some life into an otherwise fairly functional website.

The founder was a photographer, so did a lot of the photography himself, however we defined some guidelines together and wanted to make sure we show the artisans doing the framing in his studio a lot more.
